I decided it was time to wean my 10 month old son, Monch. So today, each time he needed to be nursed, I fed him solid food instead. My first step would be for him to nurse only before sleeping. The second step, nurse only at bedtime and at night. Then, completely weaned.
For breakfast, I gave him cereal. For lunch, I gave him rice. For his snack, I gave him a Filipino sweet called 'yema'. I nursed him before his morning nap and I nursed him before his afternoon nap.
Being the first day, I guess it's needless to say that not everything went according to plan. After his lunch, he started acting up and his Daddy requested that I nurse him. After 10 minutes of nursing, he stops and turns to lie down. I looked to check if he was asleep. He was looking up at the ceiling with a satisfied and content smile on his face.
I'm gonna miss this special way that Monch and I bond. I already miss how he used to stop nursing, look at me, then smack his lips while smiling.
So, as it turns out, I'm not ready to wean Monch yet. But he still needs to be less dependent on breastfeeding. Maybe, I'll stay at step two for a while.
